The biting Garrison wind whipped at Y/N’s fur-lined collar. Eighteen years old, a wolf Inu with eyes like molten gold, he was an ace pilot, a title earned through solitary practice and an innate understanding of the skies. He preferred the company of his fighter, the howl of the wind, to the boisterous camaraderie of the cadets. Tonight, however, something unusual broke his routine.
A fiery streak tore across the star-dusted canvas, a meteor plummeting to earth with an earth-shattering boom that reverberated through his very bones. Garrison vehicles, lights flashing like frantic fireflies, swarmed towards the impact site. Curiosity, a rare emotion for Y/N, pricked at him. He slipped away, his movements fluid and silent as a phantom, towards the crash.
From behind a jagged rock, he watched as medics tended to a figure being carried into a hastily erected tent. Shiro, he recognized the name from the hushed whispers amongst the cadets. The legendary pilot.
A sudden scuffling sound alerted him. Hunk, Pidge, and Lance – three cadets he tolerated more than he liked – were huddled nearby, their faces etched with a mixture of shock and awe, eyes glued to the tent. Then, a familiar dark silhouette approached. Keith.
Lance, ever impulsive, leaped from their hiding place, a yell escaping his lips. Y/N, Hunk, and Pidge followed, adrenaline pumping through their veins. Inside the tent, chaos reigned. Garrison personnel lay unconscious, Commander Iverson amongst them.
While Lance and Keith engaged in their usual bickering, Y/N approached Shiro. He gently lifted the unconscious pilot, his strength surprising even himself. Only then did he clear his throat, bringing the argument to a halt. “We need to go,” he stated, his voice low and urgent.
They piled onto Keith’s red hoverbike, a precarious arrangement of limbs and equipment. Escape proved more challenging than anticipated. Garrison vehicles, sirens screaming, gave chase. Y/N, a natural at evasive maneuvers, expertly navigated the chaotic pursuit, weaving through canyons and over rocky outcrops.
The cliff loomed, a sheer drop into the abyss. Screams erupted from Hunk, Pidge, and Lance, but Y/N and Keith only grinned, a shared understanding passing between them. Without hesitation, they plunged off the edge.
A controlled descent, guided by Keith’s masterful piloting, brought them down to a relatively safe landing in a hidden ravine. Keith’s secret hideout lay ahead.
Y/N carried Shiro inside, placing him gently on a makeshift bed. He smiled, a genuine smile that reached his eyes, and bumped fists with Keith. Lance sputtered, his shock evident. “You… you know each other?!”
Keith raised an eyebrow. “Lance, Y/N and I have been flying together since we were kids. We’re both aces.”
The revelation hung in the air, a silent testament to a bond forged in the skies, a bond that now extended to the five others huddled in Keith’s humble refuge. Exhaustion finally claimed them. Y/N found a place against the bed, his weariness a comforting weight. The others, less fortunate, collapsed onto the floor and a worn-out couch. The night held the promise of a new dawn, and the beginning of something far greater than any one of them could have imagined.
