A everday man nown as jacob acdently cous a zombie apoclips

Accidental Apocalypse

Logline: A mild-mannered accountant named Jacob unwittingly unleashes a zombie apocalypse through a disastrously flawed science experiment in his basement.

Characters:

  • JACOB (40s): An unassuming accountant, slightly clumsy, loves cheesy sci-fi.
  • DEBORAH (40s): Jacob’s pragmatic and exasperated wife.
  • DR. REYNOLDS (50s): A cynical, world-weary epidemiologist.

Scene 1:

INT. JACOB’S BASEMENT – NIGHT

Jacob, wearing safety goggles perched precariously on his forehead, tinkers with a complex contraption of wires, beakers, and a repurposed washing machine. Empty pizza boxes and energy drink cans litter the workbench.

JACOB: (To himself) Almost… almost… just need to… kzzzt… (A small spark flies) Ah, perfect! Phase two, here we go!

He pours a glowing green liquid into the washing machine. The machine whirls, shaking violently. Suddenly, a loud BANG. The basement lights flicker and die.

JACOB: (In the dark) Uh oh.

A high-pitched whine fills the air. Then, a horrifying screech. Jacob fumbles for his phone flashlight, illuminating a small, twitching creature – a rat, but grotesquely swollen and with glowing green eyes. It lets out another screech.

JACOB: (Whispering) Oh, that’s… not good.

Scene 2:

INT. JACOB’S KITCHEN – MORNING

Deborah enters the kitchen, finding Jacob pale and unshaven, staring blankly at a bowl of cold cereal.

DEBORAH: Jacob, you look like you wrestled a badger. What’s wrong? And why is the basement door locked?

JACOB: It’s… complicated. Let’s just say my “regenerative cellular growth experiment” didn’t quite go as planned.

DEBORAH: You were doing what in the basement?

JACOB: (Muttering) It was for a science fair… for the local community centre… they have a really good prize.

Suddenly, a bloodcurdling scream comes from outside.

Scene 3:

EXT. CITY STREET – DAY

Chaos reigns. People are running, screaming. Zombies – ordinary people, now pale, gaunt, and with the same glowing green eyes as the rat – shamble through the streets.

DR. REYNOLDS: (On TV, frantic) This is unprecedented! The virus is unlike anything we’ve ever seen! It spreads through saliva, and…

The TV cuts to static.

Scene 4:

INT. JACOB’S APARTMENT – NIGHT

Jacob and Deborah barricade themselves in their apartment, watching the zombie horde from the window.

DEBORAH: (Yelling) You did this, Jacob! Your science fair project destroyed the world!

JACOB: I just wanted to win a ribbon! I didn’t know it would… reanimate the dead!

DEBORAH: (Sighs) A ribbon.

Jacob stares out the window, a look of dawning horror on his face.

JACOB: It was supposed to be a… a biodegradable fertilizer… for my prize-winning pumpkins.

Scene 5:

EXT. CITY STREET – DAY (Several Weeks Later)

Jacob, wearing a makeshift armor of pots and pans, scavenges for food. He’s noticeably thinner, but he displays a newfound resourcefulness. He spots Dr. Reynolds, also scavenging, looking utterly defeated.

JACOB: Doctor Reynolds? I… I really am sorry.

DR. REYNOLDS: (Shakes his head) It’s… it’s… unbelievable. A rat, a washing machine, and an accountant. The end of the world, thanks to a failed science fair project.

Jacob sighs. A half-eaten can of beans falls from his bag.

JACOB: At least I have a good story to tell if we ever make it out of this.

(Fade out)
