Setting- Modern-day, Helbram’s father’s house

Atmosphere- calm

Helbram, a whirlwind of green hair and nervous energy, led Korrall towards a sprawling Victorian house. The paint was peeling, the porch creaking underfoot, and the air hung heavy with the scent of neglect. “My dad’s place,” Helbram mumbled, pushing the creaky door open with a sigh.

Inside, the air felt thick with dust and animosity. A hulking figure, James, sat in an overstuffed armchair, his face etched with disapproval. “So, this is the… thing you’ve brought home,” James rumbled, his voice like sandpaper on bone.

Helbram’s father, Adam, stood awkwardly by the fireplace, a man with a warmth that clashed with the chilling aura in the room. “This is Korrall,” he said, a smile struggling to bloom. “She’s a friend.”

Korrall, with her dark auburn hair and eyes full of curiosity, held Adam’s gaze for a beat. She didn’t shrink back from James’ harsh stare. “It’s nice to meet you, Mr. James,” she said, her voice quiet but steady.

James snorted. “Nice? You’re a sight for sore eyes, that’s for sure.” His eyes, sharp and cold, focused on Korrall like a predator assessing its prey.

Adam shifted uncomfortably. “James,” he began, but James cut him off with a wave of his hand.

“Don’t tell me to be polite,” James growled. He stood up, towering over Korrall. “You’re just another one of Helbram’s… distractions. He needs to focus on his work.”

Helbram clenched his fists, his eyes flashing with anger. “She’s not a distraction, she’s a friend.”

James ignored Helbram, his gaze burning into Korrall. He reached out a massive hand, his fingers gnarled and thick, and grasped Korrall’s arm. “You wouldn’t last a week in this house, little witch,” he sneered.

Korrall’s grip on her bag tightened. Her usual quiet demeanor hardened into steel. “Let go of me,” she said, her voice flat.

James, momentarily surprised by her sudden assertiveness, laughed cruelly. “Let go of me, you… you little witch!” He sputtered, his voice cracking with fear. Korrall’s demeanor then changed. “You….. you called me a witch…..” Korrall said in shock and then got excited, “I’m glad that someone in Helbram’s family figured it out without me having to tell them.”

James, taken aback, stumbled back as the air around Korrall crackled with a strange energy. The room seemed to grow colder, darker, as if a storm was brewing within her.

Helbram, watching with a mix of surprise and fascination, saw the fear creeping into James’ eyes. For the first time in his life, he saw his grandfather shrink back, his arrogance shattered by an unexpected force.

Korrall smiled then, a slow, chilling smile that revealed the hidden wrath she kept tucked away. James had unwittingly awakened something within her, something he could not control. The true nature of Korrall, the witch he so carelessly dismissed, was about to be revealed.
