South Park: Mary Kay Bergman’s funeral (1999, SCRIPT, WENDY TESTABURGER CRIES AT THE FUNERAL)

Mary Kay Bergman voiced Wendy in the first 3 seasons before passing away at the age of 38.
Eliza Schiender voiced Wendy in seasons 4-7, before leaving the show in 2003 after season 7, but didn’t die.
April Stewart voiced Wendy in season 8-onward, and is still her official voice actress to this day.

The Day South Park Lost Its Voice

INT. SOUTH PARK ELEMENTARY – AUDITORIUM – DAY

The auditorium is packed, the air thick with sorrow and the smell of stale popcorn. Kids, teachers, parents – everyone in South Park is here. The stage is bare, except for a single microphone, perched like a lone sentinel.

MR. GARrison (VOICEOVER)

“Today, we gather to mourn the passing of a true legend, a voice that brought joy and laughter to millions. Mary Kay Bergman, you were a shining light…”

Mr. Garrison’s voice cracks, and he clears his throat, his eyes welling up.

MR. GARRISON (CONT’D)

“You were… you were the heart of South Park. Your voice… it brought our characters to life. Wendy, you were… you were the smartest girl in town, a strong voice of reason, and… and you’ll be missed.”

WENDY TESTABURGER (VOICEOVER)

(Whispering)

“I miss you, Mary Kay.”

Wendy Testaburger, sitting in the front row, is a picture of grief. Tears silently stream down her face, her usually strong gaze lost in a faraway, painful reflection.

CARTMAN (VOICEOVER)

“Yeah, whatever. Who cares? It’s not like she was actually in the show.”

Cartman sits beside her, munching on a bag of chips, oblivious to the somber atmosphere. He whispers to Kyle, his voice dripping with false sympathy.

CARTMAN (CONT’D)

“Just another voice actor. They’re dime a dozen. They come and go. Like Kyle, remember? He was a whiny little jerk in the first season. Then they brought in a new voice, and he became like, a super awesome dude.”

KYLE (VOICEOVER)

“Cartman, shut up! This is a funeral.”

STAN (VOICEOVER)

“He’s right, Cartman. Mary Kay was… special. She made Wendy real.”

KENNY (VOICEOVER)

(Muffled)

“She was a good voice actor. Always did a great job of saying ‘Oh my God’ when I said something stupid.”

The camera pans over the faces of the children, their expressions a mix of confusion, sadness, and a hint of wonder. This event, the death of a voice, feels alien, almost surreal.

MR. GARRISON (VOICEOVER)

“She’s gone now, but her legacy lives on. She’ll always be remembered as the voice of Wendy, the girl who dared to stand up for what’s right. She’ll always be a part of South Park.”

The scene fades to black. A single tear rolls down Wendy’s cheek. It’s a tear for a friend, for a voice, and for a piece of her childhood that’s been forever lost.
