Write as a list

Q&A (Questions and Answers), (write this, it MUST be in the text, at the bottom or something, just put it along with the story): write as a list
– Write a list of each character’s thoughts on the siblings (Emily, Alex, Leo, and Owen), this is the parents’ thoughts on their children and the siblings’ thoughts on each other, first put a description, and then after the description put their first-person thoughts, put the positives and the negatives for the siblings’ thoughts, and put the goods and the difficulties (the difficulties and frustrations) for the parents. Owen can really express his thoughts clearly.
– Who is the most annoying character?
– How does each character (including the parents) act when they get mad.
– Which character is it funny to see get mad?
– Which character is the scariest to see get mad?
– Is Alex too mean to Leo? If so, how and why? What can she do better? Will this effect Leo when he is older?
– Does Alex get annoyed when Leo is excited?
– Is Emily nice to Leo?
– Does Owen seem to like Leo, or does he seem to be scared of him?
– If Alex snaps at Leo (which he only does if he is whiny, and not listening to his parents when they say no), will this affect him when he’s older? If so, how?
– Is Leo scared of Alex?
– How does Leo feel when he tries to play, talk to, or show something to someone, but they are busy, how does it make him feel?
– Does Alex need to give Leo discipline?
– Is Leo being annoying? If so, how and why?
– Does Leo need discipline?
– What about Leo’s attitude, and behavior?
– Are Alice and David being nice to Leo, are they treating him well?’
– What would people think of Leo in public, especially Alex and Emily’s friends? (Varying opinions)
– Is Leo acting appropriately for his age?
– Who is in the wrong?
– Does Leo deserved to be yelled at when he’s being whiny, and disrespectful? Does he deserve discipline, or does he not deserve it?
– List all the times where Leo has been annoying.
– What would happen if Alex pushed Leo if he was messing with her? she would never do this if he was annoying, unless he unintentionally laid his hands on her, when trying to “annoy” her. But can she still apologize to Leo?
– Is Leo’s methods of wanting attention bad?
– Is Leo a little rough with Owen? If so, list all the times he’s rough with Owen. (Note: He never makes Owen scream, and he never messes with hair, Leo would only be rough when carrying him, or playing with him, he never pranks him, and he is never too rough aggressive towards him), if so, Leo does not intend to be rough, he just wants to play with his brother, and be good big brother towards him.
– What are all the times Leo has been annoying in public (even if he isn’t meaning to be) (there are probably as lot of these)
– Is Leo being ignored?
– Is Leo a good or a bad brother?
– What do the other kids think of Leo? (kids around Leo’s age)
– Does Leo need to be punished?
– What are sometimes Alex has been mean to Leo?
– What are sometimes Alex has been caring towards Leo?
– What are some things Emily, Alex, Leo, and Owen like?
– How does Leo act at school? Does he get in trouble at school?
– What type of mind does Leo have (imagination as well, like is it a big imagination)?
– What are each character’s relationships with each other (this includes the parents).

Write a scene about the 4 siblings and their parent’s relationships. Sometimes Alex gets annoyed when her mother tells her to do something, and in her mind, Alice gets so frustrated with Alex’s behavior. I want to see each parents’ relationship with each child. The story starts with them all in the living room during the middle of the day (possibly on a Saturday), there is a scene when Leo plays with Owen but after a short while, Leo accidentally drops Owen (Remember that Owen is still Leo). Later before Dinner, There is a scene where Leo tries to annoy his sisters (there are multiple scenes of this, one scene where he annoys Alex, one scene where he annoys Emily, and one scene where he annoys both Alex and Emily), and there is another scene where he tries to “annoy” his parents (even he’s not purposely trying to be annoying, nor does he think he’s annoying), there are two scenes of this (first scene where he talks to his mom, and the other with his dad), Alice is a little busy when Leo tries to talk to her, but Leo doesn’t see that, David is also busy in his office, but David shows a little bit more interest, because he doesn’t want to hurt his son’s feelings by saying he’s busy, because he doesn’t want Leo to think his parents ignore him. There is another scene after dinner, where Alice tells Alex to wash the dishes, but Alex is snarky about this, during their talk, Leo butts in, and asks to do something that he wants to do (example: go play outside but he is not allowed to at night, grab a cookie, or something else, you decide), but Alice tells him no, Leo keeps begging, Alice tells him no and to go play with his toys (play video games, and/or watch TV), or something idk, Alex tells Leo to go away, and to stop being disrespectful, because Mom said no, Leo and Alex then have a fight (a little long), Alex says something mean and hurtful (it’s not anything related to the word “annoying”, it’s something more hurtful to Leo, she says she wishes something) to Leo and he gets upset, and cries, he then tells Alice that Alex is being mean, Alex says something else to Leo, Alex also calls Leo a monster, Leo responds to that, and then says something mean to Alex, which Alice will have to get onto Leo, after Alex makes a final comment to Leo, he runs off to his room. After Leo runs off, Alice and Alex have a conversation about Leo, with Alice telling Alex to be a lot nicer to Leo, and that Leo is only a kid (put this in your words), but Alex tells her all the facts (make her say all of them, every single one) about why Leo is such a pain, this scene is kind of long (about 1,000 words), Alex gets frustrated especially when Alice keeps saying that Leo is “just a kid”, and Alex gets so mad repeatedly saying ‘”He’s just a kid?!”‘ , she says Alice always says this, and Alex then mentions every time he’s annoyed her (list every event that has happened that made her annoyed) and brings up moments where he was embarrassing (list every moment that Alex mentions). Alex tells Alice that Leo needs to mature. Alex says he’s being annoying to her, to Emily, and even mentions that he’s rough with Owen (Alex mentions all the times Leo’s been rough with Owen, list all the times Leo has been rough with Owen), and she also lists all of the times Leo’s been annoying to her, and towards Emily (list all of them), Alex even tells Alice that Leo is mean them (Alice and David) as well. Alice’s patience loses thin during this convo, so she’ll raise her voice, Alice will even bring up more stuff about her childhood. After Alex leaves the kitchen in a bad mood, Alice is like “I can’t with her” and “What am I gonna do with that girl”, she says this because of her daughter’s attitude after their fight, the scene is very long. There is another scene the next day, where Alice and Alex talk about last night, Alice is doing something and Alex says hey to her, and Alice tells her she was thinking about last night, which Alex acting kinda the same as last night, she’s still mad at Leo. David and Alice also talk about Alex and Leo’s relationship when they’re in the bed. Later, the next day, Alice talks to Alex again about Leo (this scene is also very long), except this time David is with her, and talks to Alex as well. Afterwards, we see Leo a bit more in the scenes in the living room and in his room, where maybe he’ll try to talk to his family, and ask something. Alex, and Emily are in their rooms at night, and Alex texts Emily about Leo, Emily asks if Alex wants to go to her room, they then talk in Emily’s room. Alex might have a dream about what could happen if she continues to be mean to Leo (followed by dialogue), the scene is like any other scene where they are at home, we see Leo’s attitude towards his family (his parents, Emily, Alex, and even Owen) In the dream, Leo is around Alex’s age, they are all doing their normal things, Alex is on her phone, Alice is in the kitchen, (List what Owen is doing), we see Leo speak to his mom, and Owen, Alex tries to talk to Leo. Alex wakes up glad to know it was a dream. Towards the end of the story where Alex apologizes to Leo for the way she acted, maybe Leo walks towards or near her, feeling sad, even though Alex might still be the sarcastic, snarky sister towards Leo, and Leo will still be the annoying little brother, who likes to bother Alex and Emily, Alex will still apologize if she’s ever too mean or too harsh to him. The story will end with all of them in bed. Dialogue only, but also show their expressions. 20,000 words. Each scene is long. There isn’t an narration, it’s only dialogue.

Notes:
– Alex never gets mad when playing with Owen, sometimes she might want to do what she wants to do, but she loves playing with Owen, and she tries to be a good sister towards him. Alex is never annoyed when Owen wants to play with her, Alex also doesn’t show any annoyance towards him either, especially since Owen is young.
– Leo is said to be a growing boy (I’m mainly talking about physical growth, like he is getting taller, but also as a person), as he is still growing up.
– Owen is 1 year old, so he does walk, he mostly either walks, crawls, or is being carried by someone.
– Owen only calls Alice “Mama”, since she is his mother.
– Owen doesn’t speak verbally much since he is a baby, he usually says goo-goo gaga, but sometimes he can see his siblings, and try to say their name, sometimes he will have trouble saying their name (write dialogue for this), and the sibling he is talking to will say their name and he will try and say it (example: A-lex), there is a scene of this.
– Whenever he’s crying the dialogue will either say “Waaaaaaaah!”, or it will just say that he’s crying.
– Whenever each character talks, most of the times it says their emotions, example: Alex (annoyed), Leo (pouting), Owen (crying), and Owen (sniffling), there will be dialogue when he does this.
– Owen tries to play with Alex in the living room, and Alex thinks its cute.
– Leo only pouts when he is upset or mad.
– Alex only gets mad at Leo when he whines, and cries when he doesn’t get what he wants, he doesn’t always do this, sometimes he’ll just accept it, but sometimes he’ll get whiny.
– Normally when Leo is annoying, Alex is just annoyed and just tells her to leave him alone, she’s not really that mean to him, and she barely snaps at him, she’s normally just sarcastic and snarky towards him.
– Alex and Emily get along pretty well, they’re kind of like best friends.
– Alex and Emily don’t argue over phones, because they both have phones.
– Alex and Emily are teenagers, so they are a little more mature. And they don’t argue.
– Leo calls his parents, Mom and Dad.
– Alex and Emily only have two brothers, Leo and Owen.

Siblings Relationship: seen throughout the story.

Emily:
– Alex: Alex and Emily get along pretty well, they are sarcastic to each other, but they get along, Emily thinks Alex and Leo’s arguments are annoying. If Owen cries while being held by Emily, she’ll try and calm him down but will get annoyed by his crying.
– Leo: Emily thinks Leo is a little annoying, but she is a lot nicer to him, than Alex is to Leo. Emily is kind of like the nice sister, she teases him, but in playful way I suppose, but she is the one who tells he’s annoying. Emily tells Alex, she’ll make sure Leo doesn’t annoy her too much.
– Owen: Emily gets along with her youngest brother.

Alex:
– Emily: Alex and Emily get along pretty well, they are sarcastic to each other, but they get along, they both think Leo is annoying, but Emily is a little nicer to Leo.
– Leo: Alex thinks Leo is annoying, Leo and Alex get into sibling arguments a lot, if something stinks, and Alex mentions it, he’ll say that Alex smells like that. Even though, she thinks Leo is annoying and they get into arguments, she still loves him and would do anything to protect him. If Leo is ever being bullied at school, Alex will try and comfort him, if Leo is sick, she’ll feel bad and tell him she’s sorry he’s sick. She doesn’t try to dismiss his feelings, she just gets annoyed at him, when he bothers her while she’s trying to do something, sometimes, she’ll get annoyed when he’s a little bit embarrassing, but she doesn’t burst into a rage, she only does this when he is being whiny, especially towards his parents. When Leo is disrupting her, she is onl;y sarcastic, and annoyed by him, but however, if he’s being whiny, disrespectful, and spoiled, she’ll snap at him. Alex does not snap at Leo when he tries to play with her, she snaps at him when he is rude, whiny, and disrespectful.
– Owen: Alex thinks Owen is a cute baby, she is a caring sister towards him, she carries him sometimes, she sometimes gets annoyed when he cries a lot, but she tries her best to calm him down, Overall, Alex doesn’t treat him the same as she does Leo. Leo gets upset when Alex gets to hold Owen, and he doesn’t. Alex thinks Leo is annoying, but she doesn’t think Owen is annoying. Alex is never mean to Owen.

Leo:
– Emily: Leo and Emily get along pretty well, Emily thinks Leo is a little annoying, but Emily is a little nicer to Leo.
– Alex: Leo annoys Alex a lot, Leo and Alex get into sibling arguments a lot, he thinks she is a big meanie, sometimes he annoys her just for the fun of it.
– Owen: Leo likes his younger brother, sometimes he will give him some of food, he tries to be a good older brother towards Owen. If Owen cries while he is carrying him, Leo will try to calm him down, but Leo doesn’t know what to do, so he’ll go to his mom. But Leo is sometimes rough with Owen, not all the time, but he is rough with him sometimes. Sometimes Leo will sneak up behind Owen say Boo, which will cause Owen to cry, and get scared of Leo. Leo thinks it sooooo annoying when Owen cries, he also doesn’t like when Owen tries to play with his “special” car. Overall, he still loves his little brother, and he wants to be the best big brother.

Owen:
– Emily: Owen is still young, but he likes his oldest sister, he’ll sometimes play with her hair, if she holds him.
– Alex: Owen is still young, but he likes his older sister, he’ll sometimes try and play with her hair.
– Leo: Owen is still young, but he likes his older brother.

The Annoyance Factor

Saturday Afternoon, Living Room

Sunlight streams through the large windows, illuminating the clutter of toys and books scattered across the living room floor. Emily (17) lounges on the sofa, absorbed in her phone, occasionally glancing up to roll her eyes at the chaos unfolding before her. Alex (14), perched on a beanbag chair, attempts to maintain some semblance of focus on her homework, but her frustration with Leo (10) is evident in the way she tightly clenches her jaw.

Leo, a whirlwind of energy, races around the room, his blue Converse squeaking against the hardwood floor. He’s attempting to engage Owen (1), who’s toddling around, trying to keep up with his brother’s energetic pace.

Leo (excited): Owen! Come on, let’s play! Look, it’s my spaceship!

Owen, captivated by a colorful toy truck, only glances briefly at the spaceship before returning to his truck.

Leo (pouting): But Owen, it’s a spaceship! Look, it goes whoosh!

Leo scoops Owen up into his arms, giggling as he pretends to fly the spaceship around the room. Owen’s laughter, however, is cut short as Leo, in his enthusiastic play, accidentally drops Owen.

Owen (crying): Waaaaaaaah!

Leo (panicked): Oh no! Owen! I’m sorry, Owen!

Leo scrambles to pick Owen up, his face filled with remorse. Alex sighs dramatically, throwing her hands up in the air.

Alex (annoyed): Seriously, Leo? You can’t even carry Owen properly?

Leo (defensive): I was just playing!

Emily (uninterested): Whatever. Just be careful next time, okay?

Alice (45), entering the room with a stack of laundry, pauses, her eyes scanning the scene with a mix of exasperation and amusement.

Alice (calmly): Leo, you need to be more careful. Owen’s still little.

Leo (pouting): But Mom, I was just playing!

Alice (firmly): I know you were, but Owen’s still learning to walk, and he could get hurt.

Leo (whining): But I was just playing!

Alex scoffs and rolls her eyes.

Alex (sarcastically): Oh, I’m so sorry, Leo. You were just playing. Like you always are.

Leo (defensive): I’m not always playing!

Alex (smugly): Oh, really? Then what were you doing when you poured water all over the kitchen floor?

Leo (mumbling): It was an accident!

Alex (scoffs): Right. An “accident.”

Alice, tired of the bickering, steps in.

Alice (exasperated): Alright, that’s enough. Let’s all try to be a little more patient with each other.

Emily (dryly): Good luck with that, Mom.

The afternoon unfolds in a series of minor skirmishes. Leo, fueled by an apparent need to test his siblings’ patience, begins a campaign of playful but persistent “annoyance.”

Pre-Dinner, Living Room

Leo saunters over to Alex, who’s finally managed to find some peace with her homework.

Leo (teasing): Hey, Alex! What are you doing?

Alex (irritated): Trying to finish my homework, obviously. Can’t you see?

Leo (grinning): But it’s so boring! Let’s play instead.

Alex (rolling her eyes): Go away, Leo. I’m not playing with you right now.

Leo, undeterred, stretches out on the floor, grabbing a remote control car. He presses the button, sending it careening across the floor, directly towards Alex’s homework.

Alex (annoyed): Leo! Seriously?!

Leo (laughing): Oops! Sorry!

Alex, seething, throws a crumpled piece of paper at Leo.

Alex (snarling): Go play with Owen!

Leo, realizing he’s pushed his luck too far, scurries off, leaving Alex fuming.

Meanwhile, Emily is trying to read a book. Leo, in a bid to engage her, walks up to her with a wide grin.

Leo (excited): Look, Emily! I have a new dinosaur!

He holds up a small, plastic dinosaur, its bright green paint chipped and peeling.

Emily (sighing): Leo, I’m trying to read.

Leo (undeterred): But Emily, look at its teeth! They’re so sharp!

He reaches out and touches the dinosaur’s teeth, making a “roar” sound. Emily, trying to maintain her composure, gently pushes the dinosaur away.

Emily (calmly): Leo, I appreciate that you’re showing me your toy, but I need to focus on my book.

Leo (pouting): Okay, fine.

He walks away, his face falling.

Later, Pre-Dinner

Alice, preparing dinner in the kitchen, is attempting to make a phone call.

Alice (to the phone): Yes, I’ll be there at eight. Just need to finish up dinner first.

Leo (excited): Mom! Can I have a cookie?

Alice (to Leo): Honey, I’m on the phone. You can have a cookie after dinner.

Leo (whining): But I want a cookie now!

Alice (exasperated): Leo, please be patient. You can have a cookie after dinner.

Leo (pouting): But I want one now!

Alice, frustrated, sighs and hangs up the phone.

Alice (to Leo): Leo, please.

Leo (stubbornly): But I want a cookie!

Alice (firmly): Leo, go play with your toys.

Leo (whining): But I want a cookie!

David (47), working in his office, hears the commotion. He emerges, his face softening at the sight of Leo, pouting by the kitchen counter.

David (softly): Hey, Leo. What’s going on?

Leo (whining): Mom won’t give me a cookie.

David (smiling): Well, you know, you need to be patient. You can have a cookie after dinner. Why don’t you go watch some TV?

Leo (sadly): Okay, Dad.

Leo walks away, his shoulders slumped, his eyes downcast.

Alice (to David): He’s just so stubborn sometimes.

David (sympathetically): I know. He’s a growing boy. He just needs to learn to be more patient.

Alice (sighs): I just hope he doesn’t turn into a spoiled brat like his sister.

Dinner Time, Kitchen

Dinner is a tense affair. Alice, trying to maintain a calm demeanor, dishes out the food.

Alice (to Alex): Alex, honey, would you mind washing the dishes?

Alex (snarky): Do I have to?

Alice (firmly): Yes, please.

Alex (grudgingly): Fine.

Just as Alex rises to leave, Leo, who has been silently observing the scene, pipes up.

Leo (pleading): Mom, can we go to the park?

Alice (firmly): Not tonight, Leo. It’s getting dark.

Leo (whining): But I want to go!

Alice (sighing): Leo, please. Go play with your toys.

Leo (muttering): Fine.

Alex (to Leo): Just go away. Stop being so disrespectful.

Leo (pouting): But I just want to go to the park!

Alex (sarcastically): Oh, I’m sure it would be so fun for everyone to go to the park at night.

Leo (angrily): You’re always so mean to me!

Alex (rolling her eyes): I’m not mean, I just don’t want you whining all the time.

Leo (bursting into tears): You’re mean! You always wish bad things on me!

Alex (scoffs): I do not!

Leo (sobbing): You do! You always wish I would just disappear!

Alex (exasperated): That’s not true!

Leo (crying): Mom! Alex is being mean to me!

Alex (to Leo): Go to your room!

Leo (sobbing): You’re a monster!

Alex (to Leo): You’re the monster!

Alice (sternly): Leo, that’s enough. Don’t be disrespectful.

Leo (sobbing): You’re always on Alex’s side! You never believe me!

Alex (to Leo): You’re just trying to get attention!

Leo (shouting): You’re just jealous of me because I’m younger!

Leo, overwhelmed with frustration and hurt, storms off to his room, slamming the door behind him.

Alice, sighing in exasperation, turns to Alex.

Alice (softly): Alex, you need to be nicer to Leo. He’s just a kid.

Alex (furious): He’s just a kid?! He’s ten years old!

Alice (patting Alex’s hand): I know, honey. But he’s still learning.

Alex (angrily): Learning what? To be a spoiled brat?

Alice (calmly): He just needs some time to grow up.

Alex (exasperated): He’s just a kid?! He’s just a kid?!

Alice (firmly): Yes, Alex. He’s just a kid.

Alex (gritting her teeth): He’s just a kid? He’s just a kid? Why do you always say that?! He’s been annoying me since he was born!

Alice (patient): Alex, I understand you get frustrated with him, but he doesn’t mean to annoy you. He just wants attention.

Alex (fuming): He doesn’t just want attention! He’s always getting in my way! He spilled juice on my phone! He stole my favorite shirt! He messed up my makeup!

Alice (interrupting): Alex, he’s just a kid. You need to learn to be patient.

Alex (shouting): He’s just a kid?! He’s been rough with Owen! He almost broke Owen’s arm! He’s always jumping on Owen! He’s always knocking Owen over! He’s mean to him! He’s a monster!

Alice (raising her voice): Alex, that’s enough! You’re being mean! You need to learn to be kind to your brother!

Alex (screaming): He’s just a kid?! He’s just a kid?! Why are you always so soft on him?! He’s annoying everyone! He’s even annoying you! He’s always interrupting you!

Alice (through gritted teeth): Alex! He’s just a kid! You were just a kid once, and you were just as annoying!

Alex (snarling): I was never this bad!

Alice (frustrated): You were just as annoying! You used to pull my hair and steal my jewelry! You used to break my toys and blame it on Leo!

Alex (defensive): That was different! I was just a kid!

Alice (losing her patience): You were just as annoying! You were just as demanding! You were just as disrespectful!

Alex (furious): I was not!

Alice (shouting): You were! You were just as bad as Leo!

Alex (stomping out of the kitchen): I can’t believe you’re comparing me to him!

Alice, exhausted and defeated, watches Alex storm away.

Alice (to herself): I can’t with her. What am I gonna do with that girl?

The Next Day

Alice, in the kitchen, is making breakfast. Alex enters, her face still tight with irritation.

Alex (to Alice): Hey.

Alice (softly): Good morning, honey.

Alex (grudgingly): Morning.

Alice (to Alex): You know, I was thinking about last night. You need to try and be more understanding towards Leo.

Alex (scoffing): I’m not going to be nice to him just because he’s a kid.

Alice (firmly): He’s your brother, Alex. You need to try and be a little more patient.

Alex (exasperated): He’s just so annoying!

Alice (to Alex): I know he can be, but he’s still your brother.

Alex (walking away): Fine.

Later, in Bed

David and Alice are tucked in for the night.

Alice (to David): I just don’t know what to do with Alex and Leo.

David (sympathetically): I know. It’s tough. But they’re both still growing. They just need some time.

Alice (sighs): I hope you’re right.

The Next Day, Living Room

Alice and David are in the living room. Alex sits on the sofa, scrolling through her phone.

Alice (to Alex): Alex, honey, can we talk?

Alex (uninterested): Sure.

Alice (softly): Alex, I know you’re frustrated with Leo.

Alex (defensively): He’s annoying!

Alice (to Alex): I understand that he can be, but he’s just a kid.

Alex (interrupting): He’s not just a kid! He’s a monster!

Alice (to Alex): Alex, that’s not fair. He’s just trying to be your friend.

Alex (scoffs): He’s not my friend! He’s a nuisance!

David (to Alex): Alex, honey, why don’t you try and spend some time with him? Maybe play a game with him?

Alex (furious): Why would I want to play with him?

David (to Alex): Because he’s your brother. And he loves you.

Alex (sarcastically): Oh, really? I don’t see it.

Alice (to Alex): You know, you were once a little kid just like him.

Alex (shouting): I was never like him!

David (calmly): Alex, everyone has their quirks. Everyone has their good and bad sides. We all learn and grow.

Alex (exasperated): I’m never going to understand why you’re always so soft on him! He’s driving me crazy!

Alice (to Alex): Alex, you need to be patient. He’s still learning. He’s just a kid.

Alex (furious): He’s just a kid?! He’s just a kid?! He’s just a kid?!

Alice (to Alex): Alex, please.

Alex (throwing her hands up in the air): Fine! I’ll try to be nicer to him! But it won’t be easy!

Later, At Night

Leo, in his room, sits on his bed, playing with his spaceship. He looks out his window, his eyes filled with longing.

Leo (to himself): I wish Alex would be nice to me.

Later, Alex’s Room

Alex lies in bed, staring up at the ceiling. She can’t stop thinking about Leo’s outburst.

Alex (to herself): I’m such a jerk.

She picks up her phone and texts Emily.

Alex (texting): Hey. Do you think I’m being too mean to Leo?

Emily (texting): Yeah, maybe a little.

Alex (texting): I feel bad.

Emily (texting): Want to come over?

Alex (texting): Okay.

Emily’s Room

Alex enters Emily’s room, slumping onto the bed.

Alex (sadly): I just feel so bad. I was so mean to Leo.

Emily (comforting): It’s okay, Alex. I know you didn’t mean it. You were just frustrated.

Alex (to Emily): I feel like I’m always yelling at him.

Emily (sympathetically): I know. He can be annoying. But he’s just a kid.

Alex (to Emily): I’m worried that if I keep being mean to him, he’ll be messed up when he’s older.

Emily (calmly): It’s okay. Just try to be nicer.

Alex (to Emily): I just want him to be happy.

Emily (to Alex): I know you do.

Later, Alex’s Dream

Alex is fast asleep, her mind filled with thoughts of Leo. She dreams she’s a teenager, and Leo, seemingly overnight, has grown into a young man, around her age. They’re in the living room, surrounded by their usual family chaos.

Dream Alex (to Dream Leo): Hey, Leo. What are you doing?

Dream Leo (ignoring her): Nothing.

Dream Alex (to Dream Leo): You could at least say hello.

Dream Leo (snarling): Go away. I don’t want to talk to you.

Dream Alex (shocked): Leo?

Dream Leo (to Dream Alex): You’re the one who always ignores me.

Dream Alex (confused): I don’t ignore you!

Dream Leo (to Dream Alex): Oh, really? What about all those times you pretended I wasn’t there?

Dream Alex (to Dream Leo): I’m sorry. I was just busy.

Dream Leo (to Dream Alex): You never have time for me.

Dream Alex (to Dream Leo): Leo, I…

Dream Leo (interrupting): Go away, I don’t want to talk to you.

Dream Alex, hurt and bewildered, watches as Dream Leo walks away. She tries to reach out to him, but her hand passes through him like he’s a ghost.

Dream Alex (to herself): He hates me.

She wakes up with a start, her heart pounding. She wipes her eyes and looks around, relieved to see the familiar surroundings of her bedroom.

Alex (to herself): It was just a dream.

Later, Living Room

Alice and David are in the living room, watching TV. Leo walks in, his face downcast.

Leo (to Alice): Mom, can I have a cookie?

Alice (softly): Honey, you can have a cookie after dinner.

Leo (pouting): But I want a cookie now!

Alice (to Leo): Leo, please be patient.

Leo (whining): But I want a cookie!

David (to Leo): Hey, Leo. How about we play a game?

Leo (hesitantly): Okay, Dad.

Later, In Bed

Alex and Emily are in bed, talking.

Alex (to Emily): I think I’m going to try and be nicer to Leo.

Emily (to Alex): That’s good, Alex. I know you can do it.

Alex (to Emily): I feel bad for being so mean. He’s just a little kid.

Emily (to Alex): You’re a good sister.

Later, The Next Day

Leo is playing with Owen in the living room. Owen, as usual, is trying to keep up with his older brother’s energetic pace.

Leo (to Owen): Come on, Owen! Let’s play!

Owen (laughing): Goo-goo!

Leo (to Owen): That’s right, Owen! We’re going on an adventure!

Alex (to Leo): Hey, Leo. Want to play with me?

Leo (surprised): Really?

Alex (smiling): Sure.

Alex walks over to Leo and Owen. She picks up a toy truck, and they all begin playing.

Later, In Bed

Alice and David lie in bed, their arms wrapped around each other.

Alice (to David): I think things are going to be okay with Alex and Leo.

David (smiling): I know. They’ll learn to get along.

Alice (to David): I’m just glad they’re happy.

David (kissing Alice’s forehead): Me too.

The end.
